Welcome to Dreamwidth's community dedicated to the BBC series The House of Eliott! (Formerly on LJ as
house_of_eliott.)
Rules are few and simple:
1. Be nice - no bashing, flaming, trolling, or selling exclusive fashion designs to a rival house. Ask yourself: would Aunt Lydia approve?
2. Any large graphics, long text or Not Safe for Work content should go under an LJ cut.
3. All posts should be in some way related to the TV series concerned.
4. Have fun!
What is The House of Eliott, you may ask?
It was a 1990s BBC historical drama set in the 1920s, following the fortunes of sisters Beatrice and Evangeline Eliott (played by Stella Gonet and Louise Lombard) as they attempted to establish a respected fashion house after being left penniless on their father's death. The series ran from 1991-1994, ending somewhat abruptly on a cliffhanger. The show was created by Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins, who had previously been responsible for the long-running Upstairs, Downstairs.
Where can I find it?
It's widely available in most regions on DVD and in the UK is currently enjoying a rerun on the digital channel ITV3. It has been spotted from time to time on YouTube, but obviously we didn't mention that here.
Anything else I need to know?
Hmm. I mentioned Stella Gonet and Louise Lombard and lots of lovely 1920s fashions already, yes? There are various other characters, notably Aden Gillett as society photographer Jack Maddox (thereby leading us to Bea/Jack), the loyal girls of the workroom, mainly Tilly Watkins (Cathy Murphy), and Madge Howell (Judy Flynn), aided by the hopeless Agnes and catty Betty. There are historical events a plenty, Evie works her way through a series of incredibly Doomed relationships, there is much discussion of art and fashion, skulduggery and dark doings between rival fashion houses. And, as I said, 1920s fashion, okay?
Please feel free to post anything related to the series: fic, art, icons, meta, discussion, reviews, challenges, links, fanvids, graphics, recs, news etc. As long as it's connected to HoE, it's welcome here.
Any further questions, please comment to this post, or pm the mod.
